About
Nicole Yazzie is from Chinle, Arizona, on the Navajo Nation. Her clans are Bit’ahnii (Within His Cover Clan), Tábąąhá (Water’s Edge Clan), Díbéłzhíní (Black Sheep Clan), and Tódích’íi’nii (Bitter Water Clan).
Nicole joined the Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health in January 2026 through Northern Arizona University and AmeriCorps. As an intern with the Infectious Disease program, she has supported community-based research, including the Adult Pneumonia and VAX 105 studies.
Before joining the Center, Nicole worked with the Finance and Accounting Department at Diné College for one year. During her time there, she gained valuable experience in accounting and financial operations and managed a team of 4 employees in the General Services Department. Her professional experiences have helped her develop a strong interest in healthcare administration and community service.
For Nicole, one of the most rewarding parts of her AmeriCorps service is the opportunity to give back to the community she comes from. She believes that supporting the health and well-being of her people can help create positive change and stronger opportunities for future generations.
Nicole is expected to graduate from Navajo Technical University in December 2026 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. Following graduation, she plans to continue her education at Arizona State University, where she hopes to pursue a graduate degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance or Human Resources.
Her long-term goal is to remain within her community and continue serving and supporting her people. As the parent of a five-year-old, Nicole is motivated to help create a positive future for both her family and her community.
Outside of work and school, Nicole enjoys running, hiking, spending time with her family, and exploring new experiences together.
