About
Monique, a member of the Ihanktonwan Dakota and Oglala Lakota Nations. Her maternal grandmother is from the Can Kute (Shoots at the Trees) band of Ihanktonwan Dakota, and her paternal grandmother is from the Oyuhpe (Throws Away) band of Oglala Lakota. She joined the Center on June 12, 2026. Monique works as a Senior Research Associate in Rapid City, SD and is involved with the coordination of the Together Overcoming Diabetes (TOD) program.
Prior to joining the center, Monique worked primarily with the Oglala Lakota, Cheyenne River Sioux Tribes for over 20 years in behavioral health, health research, community-based program development, and higher education. Monique is a licensed clinical social worker who has provided therapeutic services, individual, family and group therapy within a tribal health care system to all ages. Monique’s motivation to improve health care systems and services for tribal populations stems from her experience coordinating studies within her tribal communities who struggle with health disparities.
Monique has a Doctor of Social Work (DSW) degree from the University of St. Thomas. She is currently pursuing a LCSW-PIP, which is the highest tier of state licensure authorized for independent clinical billing and contracting. Her goal is to provide clinical training and supervision for future clinicians to attain their licenses. In her free-time, Monique loves creating traditional Lakota beadwork and clothing alongside her husband, Delaney, and singing with her family and their youth drum group.
