Shayla Manitowabi (kwe/she/her) is Odawa from Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory. As a Research Associate at the Center, she supports projects focused on mental and behavioral health, substance use, and suicide prevention, along with the development of resources and tools for Indigenous health research. She also supports operations at the Albuquerque office.
Her work is informed by her background in Exercise Science and Indigenous public health, and by a passion for uplifting Indigenous peoples through health and wellness initiatives.
Outside of the Center, she coaches youth track and field and cross country with Running Medicine, an Indigenous-led group open to everyone, and enjoys strength and endurance training, playing sports, speaking Anishinaabemowin, preparing traditional foods, traveling, powwow, and spending time with her family.
