Biography

Tina Handeland is a citizen of the Lac du Flambeau band of Lake Superior Ojibwe. She has served as an advocate for the health of Indigenous families in multiple capacities across multiple roles. Her initial involvement with research started in 2013 as a member of a Community Research Council for a community-based research project. Tina has joined Johns Hopkins University Center for American Indian Health Great Lakes Hub as a Senior Research Coordinator II. She collaborates with the Tribal Research Committee, Colorado School of Public Health, who partners with Head Start, Home Visiting and Child Care Programs. Her interests involve outdoor related activities with her family and friends. She actively participates in her community that involve many Ojibwe traditions such as harvesting, making regalia, and spiritual practices.
