Im an injury prevention warrior! I help empower parents and elders in ways to promote vehicle safety, car seat safety, and fall prevention safety to keep tribal elders in their homes as long as possible.
Biography
Jennifer Barta Straub first attended the Johns Hopkins Institute with the Injury Prevention course in 2016. This course provided some direction for her work as an Injury Prevention Coordinator and empowered her to work in indigenous healthcare. She enjoys looking at the big picture of health in native communities through tribal public health and focuses on what it means to keep a community healthy and safe. She promotes holistic healthy behaviors in her community by teaching yoga and tai chi, and enjoys all parts of her culture including food, dance, songs, and art. Jennifer received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of South Dakota. She hopes to complete her certificate in American Indian Health through the Johns Hopkins Summer Institute and continue to use public health to serve indigenous peoples.
