Biography
Dr. Victoria O’Keefe is a Cherokee Nation citizen and Seminole Nation tribal member. She joined the Center for Indigenous Health in October 2017. She is the inaugural Mathuram Santosham Chair in Native American Health at Johns Hopkins University, an Assistant Professor at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Department of International Health (Social and Behavioral Interventions Program), an Associate Director at the Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health, and a Licensed Psychologist. Victoria’s community-based participatory research with Native communities focuses on strengths-based and culturally-informed suicide prevention, mental health promotion, and wellness.
Victoria received her MS and PhD in clinical psychology from Oklahoma State University. She completed her clinical internship at the Puget Sound VA Health Care System, Seattle Division. She was a Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellow 2012-2015. In 2020, Victoria was honored by her tribe with a Cherokee Nation Community Leadership Individual Award.
