Meet Crystal Austin, Director of Communications and Co-Director of External Affairs

We are pleased to introduce Crystal Austin (Diné), Director of Communications and Co-Director of External Affairs at the Center for Indigenous Health. Crystal has been a dedicated member of the Center’s team for the past 15 years, serving communities through her work with the Family Spirit Home Visiting Program. She is not only a passionate advocate for Indigenous-led public health but also excels at bridging her experience growing up on Navajo Nation and speaking fluent Diné Bizaad with that of the diverse array of allies, donors, and stakeholders with whom we work.

Crystal’s role expanded this year to focus on communications leadership at the Center. Along with the External Affairs and Development team, Crystal now leads our efforts to reach supporters like you through our newsletter, social media, in-person events and more. Her expertise and dedication ensure that our messages resonate deeply with our audience, fostering stronger connections and support.

Crystal reflected on her role in this way, “When we meet and share our identities, we examine our kinship with one another. This kinship reminds us of the responsibility we have for each other. Our work is not just about providing services; it is about building pathways so that our loved ones will continue on their corn pollen trail unabated. It is about helping our Relatives walk strongly so that they may see old age.”

We look forward to sharing stories about our incredible programs, teammates, and strengths-based approaches. We strive to widen our circle so that more essential allies and partners join us in our mission.
