Biography
Abi is a descendant of the Lac Courte Oreilles band of Lake Superior Ojibwe and grew up in North-Central Wisconsin. She joined the Center in June 2024 in order to expand her understanding of the intersections of Public Health and traditional practices. Abi currently works as an Administrative Coordinator for the Center’s Training programs, assisting with Institute planning and implementation.
Abi received her BA in Psychology, French Studies, and American Indian Studies from the University of Minnesota in 2020, and is currently completing her MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. Her professional interests focus on integrating traditional approaches into mental health care for Tribal communities, particularly Urban Indian populations, and the potential for Nature-based therapy as a successful intervention. Her previous work as a Domestic Violence Advocate for the Indian Health Board of Minneapolis introduced her to the field of Public Health, and she’s excited to learn as much as she can at the Center.
Personally, Abi loves spending her free time with her four cats and making her family and friends anxious by wandering through the woods alone.
