Biography
Brent, a member of the Diné Nation, is Kinyaa’áanii/Kiyaa’áanii (Towering House clan), born for the Bilagáanaa (White People). His maternal grandpa is of the Tábąąhá (Water’s Edge Clan) and his paternal grandpa is Bilagáanaa. He joined the Center in August of 2024. Brent works as a Research Program Supervisor in Fort Defiance, AZ and is involved in the implementation, coordination and evaluation of behavioral health programs including Azhe’e Bidziil (Strong Fathers) and Hastiin Bidziil (Strong Man) programs.
Prior to joining the Center, Brent worked largely in mental health, supporting members diagnosed with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) and substance use disorders (SUD) for over 10 years. During this period, he had the opportunity to work with Medicaid populations, from infants to elders promoting health and wellness. It was in this capacity that he developed a passion for working in community health to improve the health of New Mexico communities.
Brent has a BA degree in Psychology from the University of New Mexico and would like to pursue a master’s in social work. Brent has also earned life, health, retirement, and disability licensure to assist people in securing their financial future. In recovery, Brent found a passion for the outdoors and enjoys backpacking, hiking, camping, and fly fishing. Brent hopes to build up his off-grid homestead on the Navajo Nation and positively affect the Navajo Nation.
