Brooke Perkins

Biography

Brooke, a member of the Diné and Omaha tribes, she is Hooghanłáni (Many Hogans Clan), born for the Naasht’ézhí Tábąąhí (Zuni Edgewater Clan). Her maternal grandpa is of the White Buffalo Clan (Omaha) and her paternal grandpa is of the Tł’ízí Łání (Many Goats Clan). She joined the center in March of 2023. Brooke works as a Sr. Research Specialist/Lead Trainer with the Family Spirt Program. Some of her main responsibilities include; leading virtual and in-person trainings throughout the year for the Family Spirit Core Curriculum as well as other Family Spirit curricula and tools. She also facilitates regular communication with Family Spirit affiliate sites to provide implementation support and technical assistance.

Prior to joining the Center, Brooke began her work with the Native community through her local school district in Utah. She had the opportunity to work with the youth (preschool-high school). Assisting them with their schooling, advocating for them, and helping them to learn more about their culture. In her job during that time, she was also able to share many lessons about health and wellness while incorporating various facets of Indigenous culture. In her most recent position, she worked as a Community Health Worker with the Urban Native population of Phoenix, where she provided education to pregnant moms and their young children.

Brooke has a BS degree in Health Promotion with an emphasis in Nutrition from Weber State University. She is a passionate health educator and loves to help others connect with their Indigenous roots. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, running, yoga, and crafting. Brooke is based in Arizona.
