Biography
Kevalin joined the Center for Indigenous Health in January of 2019. She has worked on a variety of behavioral health initiatives at the Center including the Safe Passage Reproductive Health App, NativeVision, and the Together Overcoming Diabetes trial. Kevalin also co-teaches the course, Obesity Epidemic Problem Solving Seminar: What We Can Learn from Native American Communities, for the Bloomberg American Health Initiative. She is committed to community-centered, place-based work and brings experience in chronic disease prevention, food justice, mental health promotion, and youth empowerment to her work at the Center. Kevalin is also a certified birth doula. Her primary research interests include implementation strategies for employing paraprofessional health workers to deliver high-impact programs in community settings and using food system reforms to improve the health of mothers and children.
Kevalin has an MS in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a BS from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities where she studied food systems and public health.
