Biography

Tim Werwie joined the Center for Indigenous Health in August 2023, as Research & Evaluation Officer. At the Center, Tim supports research and evaluation activities with the Family Spirit Strengths and Native Rise teams, and the CIRCLE Center for Excellence.

Tim has master’s degrees in Fine Arts and Public Health and has previously supported community-based programming in West Africa, with particular focus on gender equity and reproductive health by way of mass media, community engagement, and health systems strengthening. Tim has also facilitated various quantitative and qualitative studies to understand behavioral drivers and barriers to malaria and bed-net use, anti-microbial resistance, and transmission of zoonotic diseases in West Africa. Tim’s current interests include the promotion of Indigenous/non-Western frameworks of health through evidence-based research and practice.

In his free time, Tim loves being in nature – whether hiking, climbing, biking, or fishing. Tim is based in Asheville, North Carolina, with his partner, cat, and dog.
