Brief Study Summary
- The goal of MP2H is to test the effectiveness of this five-lesson intervention on reducing symptoms of posttraumatic stress and increase hopefulness and communal mastery among adults with recent binge substance use or suicide behavior
Background information
- The MP2H curriculum includes five lessons designed to address trauma, stress and anxiety, and binge substance use in Apache adults
- The lessons can be delivered in different orders depending on the participant’s priorities – for example, someone who is especially struggling with binge alcohol use may benefit from receiving the binge substance use lesson earlier in their five visits
What we are doing
- We are piloting this study with approximately 30 adults with recent binge substance use or suicide behavior reported to Celebrating Life
- Half of the participants are randomized to receive the MP2H lessons, and half are randomized to receive case management visits now and MP2H later after finishing their assessments
- Five assessment timepoints are spaced from enrollment to 12 weeks after completing their case management or intervention lesson visits
How this will help improve health in your community
- This curriculum holds promise for addressing trauma in adults in this community
- Trauma can lead to other mental health concerns like anxiety, depression, and binge substance use, so this curriculum seeks to address all of these behaviors
