Public health addresses the disparities I observed in the Mexican border town I grew up on and in the Chemehuevi Reservation.I want to be a role model to American Indian youth and help combat issues tribes face such as chronic illness, mental illness, and low academic achievement.

Biography

Jazmin Villavicencio is an energetic Tribal Liaison for Arizona’s early childhood education program called First Things First. Earlier, Ms. Villavicencio served the Pima County Health Department as a Senior Health Educator, informing the community about fitness, nutrition, tobacco, and chronic disease prevention. She also coordinated the Tucson Indian Center’s Summer Spirit Native Youth Camp for young people ages 8-18. In this role, she recruited youth to join the center’s Youth Anti-Tobacco Coalition.
