Natalie Joe

Natalie Joeis a PhD candidate in the Cellular and Molecular Medicine program at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She grew up on the Navajo Reservation as a member of the Native Nation. In 2016, she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology and in Biochemistry from Fort Lewis College. Currently, she works in the laboratory of Gregory Riggins, MD, PhD in the Department of Neurosurgery. The overall goal of her thesis is to develop new therapies that can be useful in clinical trials to impact the lives of patients with IDH1 mutant glioblastoma.

She is a committed volunteer, curious scientist, science communicator, and underrepresented minority (URM) advocate. She seeks to promote native involvement in STEM (science, technology engineering and mathematics) disciplines and to be an innovator in diversity and inclusion as a fair-minded professor.
